LxWxH is an extension of my previous project Artomaton, which lasted from 2006 to 2008. The concept was an artist-driven public project based on the discussion and promotion of locally-based art and literature. Artomaton's primary function was to engage artists and viewers together through art and philosophy using the website as access to an artistic community. Artists submitted work collectively which participants purchased on the website as a subscription. Meanwhile I used the site as a platform for my art blog and philosophical narrative to bring art off the gallery wall and into my readers' everyday lives.
When I had to prepare for a show later in the year, I serendipitously ran into an irreconcilable argument with my web host and lost the dot org domain name for Artomaton. This presented an excellent reprieve in which I was able to return to the studio and work on the series for labour ←→ wait ←→ repeat.
With the show now behind me, in the next few months I plan on revamping the project to work more closely with artists and bring DIY philosophies/guerrilla tactics to make art accessible, fun, sustainable, and affordable. This is not a new idea, but it will hopefully be a different approach towards making art enjoyable to everyone, regardless of whether or not you are an artist, a collector, an enthusiast, a proletariat, or revolutionary.
