Joey Veltkamp, Best Of

Joey adds his voice to the chorus today over on his blog, and titles the post "We're Winning."

What I love about his perspective is that it's positive, and if you follow the links, you can see the layered and varied depth of his story. Something which jumps at me out from this post from November:

I know there are folks who are glad the proposition passed. I probably won't change their mind by yelling or protesting (but I understand that impulse). The way to change people's minds is by getting to know them. Based on their Facebook updates, the majority of my straight friends are overwhelmingly supportive and equally bummed out by Pr*p 8. Thanks -- that means so much.
But even if that doesn't work, all we have to do is wait it out. Each generation becomes more and more tolerant.

Well done Joey. And it's true. Even though I've been hearing this song for all thirty-four of my years on the planet and now in this city, it never rings false. The better we know each other, the more we reach out to people who are not carbon copies of ourselves, the better.

  1. Oh Sharon! Thank you. Serioulsy. I hope you realize what a bridge-builder/uniter you are! In the short time I've known you, you already have managed to knock my socks off repeatedly. :) Let's keep being ourselves and reaching out. xo
