Who Are We and Other Events in Identity

Last night I missed out on what I think may have been an incredible discussion on identity going on at Greg Kucera. In what seems to be an extension of the original conversation about who's talking and to whom and when and about what, the Stranger's Jen Graves led a discussion with panelists Ken Allen, Stephen Lyons and Dann Webb. The question at the end of her Tuesday post was "Who the hell are we? Let's talk about it." Oh yes, lets!

What perks my interest in the discussion is that it stemmed from an initial criticism of an exhibition titled Century 21: Dealer’s Choice. She was challenged by Kucera to elaborate on her opinion of the show and so she did. I really like this idea of speak, think, challenge, dissect. I hope we continue to do this across the blogosphere, but also in all our conversations pixeled and acual - why not ask each other what the hell we mean and what we're getting at? The point is always to make clearer. I don't think any of us are talking just to hear ourselves. As one who will be listening, I look forward to hearing about the talk from people who were there!

So speaking of identity. Tonight - if I don't end up in the same place I did last night, planted firmly on the asphalt of the 520 bridge - I'll be at Vermillion looking at the work of Shaun Kardinal, Katherine Dyke, Jesse Delira and more during Capitol Hill's newly forged art walk, also known as "Blitz".

Also tonight, don't forget to drop into the Columbia City Gallery if you can and say hello to Mandy Greer during her artist's workshop. You absolutely have to catch her before the project is done - it's a lot of fun to participate and see her work in progress.

Lastly, Chris Crites will be at Roq la Rue tomorrow night with Travis Lampe for About: Face - 6 -9 pm in Belltown.

I recently heard summer was supposed to be slow but this week sure isn't! Hope to see you around...

(sorry Shaun, this one seems to be a unanimous favourite. maybe it's just we all like to hug things? or are we sleepy too?)
